Community guidelines

How we expect families and au pairs to treat each other on Au Pair Nation.

Last updated 15 September 2026

Draft. This document is being reviewed by our legal advisers and may change before launch.

Au Pair Nation works because people trust it. These guidelines apply to every family and every au pair. Breaking them can get your account suspended or closed.

Be honest

  • Your profile must describe you. Real name on your ID, your own photos, your actual experience.
  • Say what you can offer and what you need. A live-out role advertised as live-in wastes everyone’s time.
  • If your situation changes, update your profile or pause it.

Be respectful

  • Treat every conversation as you would a job interview: polite, clear and honest.
  • Decline gracefully. “Thanks, but this isn’t the right fit” is enough.
  • No discrimination on the basis of race, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability or family status, in profiles or in chat.

Keep children safe

  • Never post photos showing a child’s face, a child’s name, or a school name.
  • Don’t ask an au pair to send photos of themselves beyond their profile.
  • Meet for the first time in a public place or on a video call.

Keep money out of the chat

  • Never send money to, or request money from, anyone you meet here before a placement has started and been agreed in writing.
  • Au pairs should never be asked to pay anything, for any reason.
  • Be wary of anyone who wants to move the conversation off the platform immediately.

Report what looks wrong

Use the report button on any profile or conversation. Reports go to a person, not a bot. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.

What we do

We may remove content, suspend or close accounts, and cooperate with authorities when these guidelines are broken. We will tell you why unless doing so would put someone at risk.
